Active Yoga

As the name implies,  this class is for students with fewer physical limitations and at least 2 years of current, consistent yoga experience.  This well-paced class covers a wider variety of asanas, including basic back extensions and inverted poses.

            $35 for a 4-class series

            $60 for an 8-class series

** Class series are good for 90 days; may be used for Sarah’s Active or Gentle Yoga Classes  at Rossmoor**

yoga for healthy bones

For people with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia, it’s not the poor quality of their bones that’s the source of concern.  The real problem is the risk of broken bones – compression fractures of the spine, and fractures of the femur (thigh bone), pelvis and wrists, which result primarily from falls.

As demonstrated by the results of Dr. Loren Fishman’s 10-year, ground- breaking study, yoga practice can reduce the likelihood of bone fractures while affording other positive health effects, including:

  • Increased bone mineral density

  • Added physical strength and stamina

  • Improved balance and coordination

  • Better posture

  • Enhanced flexibility and range of motion

  • Less stress and anxiety

This class was inspired by Dr. Loren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall, and is designed to build the framework to help you attain these results.  Although the class will incorporate a variety of poses, the primary focus is the sequence of 12 asanas that was developed by Dr. Fishman as a treatment for Osteoporosis.  A minimum of 6 months recent yoga experience is recommended.  You must be able to get down and up off the floor (with props if needed) to enroll in this class.

Sarah is certified by Dr. Loren Fishman to teach his method of Yoga for Osteoporosis.  This class meets the requirements for students who want to enroll in Dr. Fishman's new study on Yoga For Osteoporosis.  For more information on this study, please refer to Dr. Fishman's website at http://www.sciatica.org

Cost:   $13 per class/drop-in

            $45 for a 4-class series

            $80 for an 8-class series

** Class series are good for 90 days; may be used for any of Sarah’s Yoga Classes  at Rossmoor*
